Over Dozen Dead Following Ecuador Earthquake

At least 14 people were killed and more than 300 others were injured as a result of a 6.5-magnitude earthquake in western Ecuador, the press service of Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso reported.

“14 dead, 381 injured,” the presidential press service said on Twitter on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Ecuador’s president said the death toll from the earthquake was 12, with 11 deaths recorded in El Oro province and one in Azuay province.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake shook western Ecuador on Saturday and caused damage in northern Peru. RPP (Radio Programas del Peru) broadcaster said a four-year-old girl was killed on Saturday after a roof collapsed in the Tumbes department, bordering Ecuador.
