Xi Jinping on a visit to Kazakhstan

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay an official visit to Kazakhstan at the invitation of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The leaders are expected to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss possibilities of a comprehensive strategic partnership. Several documents are expected to be signed after the talks.

Iranian President to visit Uzbekistan from 14-16 September

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi will visit Uzbekistan on September 14-16 at the invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The leaders will hold talks in Samarkand and discuss issues for further development and strengthening of bilateral relations, as well as expanding practical interactions in various areas including trade, cooperation, innovation, transport, energy and tourism. Several joint documents are expected to be signed in the meeting.

Raisi is expected to attend the high-level SCO summit to be held in Samarkand on September 15-16.

Queen Elizabeth’s residence to open at Westminster Hall

The Laying-in-State of the late Queen Elizabeth II will begin at Westminster Hall in the Houses of Parliament.

The Queen’s coffin will be carried out of Buckingham Palace during a ceremonial procession which will begin at 2:22 p.m. local time (13:22 GMT).

Queen Elizabeth II will remain in state at the Palace of Westminster until 19 September. The procession can be viewed in person from 11 a.m. through September 14 at ceremonial viewing areas along the route of the procession.

Defense ministers of US, Japan to meet in United States

Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada will meet with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in the United States.

The ministers will discuss the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, China’s response to the arrival of foreign delegations in Taiwan, as well as the conflict in Ukraine and developments in the North Korean missile and nuclear programme.

Hamada’s visit will be the first in-person discussion between the US and Japanese defense ministers since taking office in August.

EU to hold CORPER meeting on energy issues

A meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States of the European Union (COREPER) will be held to discuss the inclusion of EU regulation on gas storage in the Energy Community, in preparation for the 41st Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the adoption of amendments to the agreement between the European Union and the Swiss Confederation on linking greenhouse gas emissions trading systems.
