North Kivu MP
Seventeen members of the parliament of North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (RDC) to embark on a path of dialogue with the M23 rebels as the national army continues to face defeat.
The parliamentarians expressed themselves on 28 February through an open letter addressed to the President of the DRC, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi.
Parliamentarians proposed an end to hostilities; Immediate withdrawal of M23 rebels through a peaceful resolution of the crisis in eastern Congo to avoid registering further deaths, which have already numbered hundreds of innocent civilians.
They also propose their participation in conducting peace processes and opening humanitarian corridors in war-torn areas.
Lawmakers from North Kivu also asked their government to explain why armed groups including the self-proclaimed Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) and the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) are located on their territory and consider deporting them. Are. Rwanda is calling for the elimination of FDLR terrorists who threaten its security. However, the DRC uses them to fight alongside the regular army, which allows them to continue committing crimes, including killing Congolese Tutsi who speak Kinyarwanda. The latest report by UN experts also elaborated on the different ways in which the DRC military could integrate the FDRLR.
The MPs asked their government to take measures to ensure that the electoral process is carried out within constitutional limits.
